Accountants working as interim managers can now take advantage of a new online training resource thanks to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Developed by accountants for accountants, ACCA COMPASS assesses core competencies and abilities online.
Tony Osude, acting Director of Professional Development at ACCA, said a survey conducted last year found accountants do not make the link between their professional and career development, nor do they plan for these areas as much as they need to or would like to.
Given that many accountants could spend up to 12 days or nearly 100 hours a year on professional development there is a clear need to ensure that there is a good return on this investment, he explained.
The resources allow members to benchmark their skills against a given role at various levels of experience. It also allows them to create a development pathway on the same career trajectory or into a parallel track.
This is complimented by a guide book, entitled ACCA guide to career pathways in public practice, also available online.
Osude said the guide offers advice on working in areas such as audit, taxation and advisory work.
It is imperative that individuals make the right career and development decisions as they come into the profession and make their way through it, he added.
