More women choosing to become interims

25 November 2009

Women are increasingly choosing to build careers as interim managers or freelance consultants according to a recent report by a business support organisation and a leading cosmetics company.

A survey by Avon and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) suggests that entrepreneurial spirit among females shows no sign of abating and that women also benefit from the flexibility that comes with self employment as an interim or freelancer.

Commenting on the findings, Avon President Anna Segatti said the Lipstick Entrepreneur has discovered she can have it all - balancing her family needs with her ambitious business goals.

Segatti is also reported as saying that when the going gets tough, women see opportunities and run with them.

Additionally, self-employed women with families can benefit from the amount of home time they experience compared with office jobs, she added.

Elsewhere in the report there was speculation that the number of female MPs could rise from 126 to 252 in the next decade, with an increasing number of female millionaires also apparent.

However, recent statistics from the Fawcett Society show that the average gender pay gap in the UK is currently 21.2 per cent.
